On Jan. 9, Msgr. Colin F. Bircumshaw, vicar general, made the announcement of Fr. Reynato (Rene) Rodillas’ death on behalf of Bishop Solis and the priests of the Diocese of Salt Lake City.
Fr. Rodillas tested positive with the COVID-19 virus on Jan. 5 and was sent home from the emergency room with oxygen to quarantine and to recover at home, Msgr. Bircumshaw said in his announcement, adding that the date of death has yet to be determined by the medical examiner, but that it was probably on Jan. 8.
Fr. Rodillas was 58 years old, and would have turned 59 this month.
Funeral arrangements follow. To comply with pandemic social distancing requirements, seating is extremely limited. However, the services will be livestreamed on the Cathedral of the Madeleine YouTube channel, cotmtv.
The funeral vigil for Fr. Rodillas will be Wednesday, Jan. 20, 7 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Madeleine, 309 E. South Temple. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, Jan. 21, 11 a.m., also at the cathedral.
A memorial fund for Fr. Rodillas has been set up on the St. Olaf Parish website, https://www.stolafut.org/

Current circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic prevent us from doing some of the things we’re used to doing successfully, but there are plenty of things that we can do. As we enter the second half of the fraternal year, this webinar will help your council to identify what’s still possible and to the turn those possibilities into action.
Fraternal Mission staff will discuss successful strategies for:
• Generating prospects
• Converting those prospects into members
• Hosting exemplifications, church drives, and other strategies for virtual recruiting
• Publicizing your good works
• Utilizing social media effectively

To My Brother Knights All

Hopefully many of you have been wondering about whether there will be another March for Life in January 2021. The answer is yes, but in a different way. On Saturday, January 30, 2021, at 11:00 AM, there will be a “March for Life Car Rally”. It will start at the Utah State Capitol parking area and proceed down State Street to Sandy, UT. Approximate time to drive from the State Capitol to Sandy will be 2 hours

I ask that those attending this rally be at the State Capitol by 9:30 AM so that we can gather together in one area to organize our vehicles. The Knights, with their family and friends, will assemble together as one big group with our Knights of Columbus Sign in the first vehicle. Please try and car pool for the rally and decorate your vehicle with Pro-Life signs or other appropriate, non-offensive, signage. A suggestion is to have children in the Catechism classes make signs for the rally. Our support as Knights of Columbus for this March for Life Car Rally is paramount in support and protection of the unborn child.

Pro Life Utah will have flags for sale and all proceeds from the sales of these flags will help purchase the ultrasound machine that will go into the Ultrasound van. You can also give donations as well during this time. Radio Station K Talk, 1640 AM, will be broadcasting the guest speakers during the car rally.

Please try and get this information into your Parish Sunday bulletin. As more information is forthcoming from Pro Life Utah, I will pass it onto you.

If you have any questions, please contact me at 801-602-4405.
