Oct. 7 — Our Lady of the Rosary
On Oct. 7, the Church celebrates the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. Historically known as the feast of Our Lady of Victory, this feast day commemorates a 16th-century naval victory that protected Europe from Turkish invasion. Pope St. Pius V credited the Blessed Virgin Mary’s intercession for the triumph, as she was invoked through a widespread rosary prayer campaign across Europe on the day of the battle.
The Knights of Columbus have a long history of devotion to the Virgin Mary through the rosary. Every new Knight receives a rosary when he joins, and the K of C rosary program promotes the devotion in families and parishes. The Knights of Columbus Catholic Information Service’s A Scriptural Rosary for the Family is a good resource to share with Knights to encourage them to make the rosary a regular part of their prayer life.

Our next Parish Breakfast is this coming Sunday from 9:30 to 1:30 or so. I plan on being there at 8 or so and would love to see as many guys as possible ready to help, serve, cook, clean, etc. As a reminder, donations will be taken to help replace the audio devices stolen from the church.

Oct. 22 – Feast of St. John Paul II
The Saint John Paul II National Shrine in Washington, D.C., is hosting a week of celebrations leading up to the feast of St. John Paul on Oct. 22. The festivities begin Oct. 16, the anniversary of Karol Wojtyla’s election to the papacy in 1978, with Mass, a reception and a conversation about the election’s worldwide impact. Free registration is available here.
The annual St. John Paul II Pilgrimage will take place Oct. 19. Pilgrims are invited to join a 7.5-mile spiritual walk that culminates with Mass at the shrine. For more information and to buy tickets, visit here. On Oct. 22, the Shrine will provide refreshments after both Masses in celebration of the feast day and host “Evenings with the Merciful Jesus” led by the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy; more information here.

Did you ever think of volunteering for a role of a Chairman or Officer? Do you understand the Council Officer roles and responsibilities? Each year your council elects and appoints new men to take on leadership roles within your council. Sometimes these roles are well-defined while other times the role may be expanded based on that individuals’ talents or interests. I am coming to Utah on October 26, at Holy Family Hall, St Vincent de Paul Parish in Holladay from 1130 to 1500, to offer an approach that may be helpful for councils in appointing officers or for looking to expand the responsibilities of their existing officers. You need to make your job easier as a leader, by spreading out the work, defining roles and responsibilities, searching for skills and abilities of your membership, and have a leader succession plan for the future of your Council. This is open to every Knight, but we especially want State Officers, District Deputies, Grand Knights, Deputy Grand Knights, Financial Secretaries, and Chancellor to attend. We want to change ‘THE WAY WE HAVEALWAYS DONE IT” by exploring Member Management, navigation of the Supreme website, and resources available to you at the District and State level. Luncheon will be served at 11:30 so we can start once everyone is served. Venmo and cash donations will be accepted for the lunch. Please plan on attending this session. It is important for us to ensure success of the Knights this year and in the future. Please let your District Deputy know how many are attending from your Council by October 19 so we can prepare materials and lunch. Oct. 31 — Anniversary of the Beatification of Blessed Michael McGivney

The beatification of Blessed Michael McGivney took place Oct. 31, 2020, in the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Hartford, Connecticut. Pope Francis issued an apostolic letter announcing that Father Michael McGivney has been given the title “Blessed,” making him the third U.S.-born priest to receive this honor and the first to be beatified after spending his entire ministry in a U.S. parish.
The letter praised Blessed Michael McGivney for his “zeal for the proclamation of the Gospel and generous concern for the needs of his brothers and sisters made him an outstanding witness of Christian solidarity and fraternal assistance.”
