Talk, then over to SS. Been going around. Still more places to visit [7:08 PM] Start the GoToMeeting recording. [7:08 PM] SS Bill McCauley: Opening prayer to Christ the King. Missing some DDs tonight (see list above, Marco was late). [7:09 PM] SD Frank: Who is going to SEEK in January? (no thumbs up). Anyone know what it is? Questions about it? Big Catholic gathering, KofC Supreme is sponsoring it, will have membership table and recruit. Just need to attend, tried to send Bill McCauley on Friday 1/3, but said my wife and I need to go. $600 to register. Become holier than you already are. God knows I need it. McGivney relic will be there. ** January 1-5, 2025; website is https://seek.focus.org/ [7:11 PM] SD Frank: We're getting the McGivney relic here in February, plan a big event at Saint Ambrose. Don't know much details yet. Father Erik has said yes, council hasn't said yes. [7:12 PM] SD Frank: Pushed at Supreme, more than membership is COR. Want councils to start the COR INITIATIVE. Not a Meeting. Gathering of men, have a good time, get to know each other, express themselves, help each other, learn about God. We had a COR gathering at the State Officers Meeting on Monday, was great. Grandpa McCauley led it, we all discussed the reading. Surgeon General report of epidemic of loneliness, Gen Z and Millennials. We need to save these next generations. Will discuss more at Midyear meeting, and will be hearing it a lot. It's like a Bible Study. If there is one, get involved and help with it. [7:15 PM] SD Frank: Happy & Excited on how things are going. Bill Kelly, Bill Mundy, and Doug Shane are killing it in membership, we're ahead of the curve. Let's stay there. Holidays are an opportunity. [7:16 PM] SD Frank: Do have a couple districts that haven't recruited any members. District two at Bountiful, Saint Patrick’s. Council 11479 hasn't recruited at Saint Thomas More, quota of 7. Blessed Sacrament 6966 at 100%. American Fork - struggle - DD Jon/Bob - reach out, need 5, do a weekend thing. Magna and Tooele - let Barry know will come help; each just need 5 each out there. Brigham City has recruited. We're on track again. Bring in new brothers, new blood. Not GK for life. Find new leaders. ** https://utahknights.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/20241123-Membership-_-Insurance-Progress-Report.pdf ** Eleven (11) Councils which have not recorded any Y-T-D membership additions: 05347, 05502, 06739, 07401, 08350, 08606, 09731, 11479, 12264, 14399, and 17140. [7:18 PM] Stacey Yeager: Came up at 1429 Assembly meeting, Nick knows about it. Father Desmit had a landmark in Ogden, put up in 1930-something. Got stolen and destroyed, reached out to FN Greg Keller, looking at cost for replacement, will bring it up at the Midyear meeting. $6000 if we go with brass again, see if councils want to chip in to get it replaced. Ed Ortega took a picture, was put in place by "Utah KofC State Council". ** https://utahknights.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/20241121-DD-Meeting-Historical-Marker-72.jpg SS McCauley: I'll talk to Greg [Keller] for more information on it. [7:20 PM] Stacey: Any Star Districts? Got a fancy watch from the Knights, pretty cool. My wrist is too small, need a new band. Handmade took 3-6 months. * Richard Green: I got one, it's nice. [7:21 PM] Stacey: For the marker, are looking at idea of aluminum etched instead of $6500 for brass. Not in the best part of town. Block and a half east of Saint Joseph. [7:22 PM] Bob Masse: In diocese archives, plaque similar to that, Father Escalante and Dominguez, taken from wall before flooded Lake Powell, A1144 got it, in the diocesan archives. Same type of plaque. Says 1144 KofC. [7:24 PM] SD Frank: Our EFF Directors are Daniel Quintanilla and Greg Keller, and Father Gabriel is involved, questions, direct them to them. [7:25 PM] IPSD Bill Kelly on Membership: [7:26 PM] Star Tracker showing on screen. ** https://utahknights.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/20241121-UT-Star-Status-FY24-25.xlsx * Mundy, Masse and I have done 5-6 church drives YTD. At 88/210 members. * Need 21 members to meet mid-year goal. 30 active councils, so one per council. Ask at Mass at Thanksgiving, Christmas, give opportunity to be a Knight. Have 53 members on the online roster. 10304 has 10 guys hanging out there. Council needs to reach out and have them join the council. 10/13 districts are on track on membership. Star Council. Star District and All-Star District. * Star District 75% membership and all councils safe environment qualified. Halfway there on safe environment, indicates specific names and duties. Contact the GKs. Program Director, or when Chuck Dover take the training? * All Star District - green in all categories. All the things. Don't know the incentive. [7:30 PM] IPSD Kelly: Church drives by the end of the year difficult, but Mundy and I will help. Just got resupplied. Next big membership event - February - RCIA - at Cathedral - get materials out to the RCIA candidates to plant the seed. Councils to follow up. [7:33 PM] IPSD Bill: Questions? (none). Here if you want to reach out and review any of this stuff. [7:33 PM] DD Mundy: Ask colleagues, if possible, I send email to council leaders to bring in one new member before New Year’s Eve, and I'll CC the DDs on their councils. Send a couple of PDFs of brochures I can drop off. * SS McCauley: Put it in the State Update? * DD Mundy: I already sent mine, but could adjust it, and think direct email with follow-up text I don't mind doing. We're close. We can do it. Talking as the benefit guy for the state. Will make that happen. [7:35 PM] SS Bill McCauley Over 40% [of membership quota] in 12 of our councils. Great work of fishing for men. As Frank said, have nine (9) councils with no new members at all this year. Contact the online members, transfer into the council. ** Need the CUF ceremonial first! Safe Environment: Key thing, 10733 need a Grand Knight, Family Director, and need a Community Director. Also need Family Directors in 5214 and 11479. Community in 1129, 5214, 5502, 10304 and 15418. We get those ten (10), we're at a good start. [7:37 PM] DD Masse: Please turn off microphones if not talking. Down here getting huge feedback. 7:37 PM] SS McCauley: Audits in January. Four councils in danger of suspension, haven't submitted a recent audit. Councils: 5502 6/30/2023; 7401 6/30/2023; 12264 12/31/2023; 13297 12/31/2023 Missed 2 or 3 audits, let's get caught up and submit an audit in January. [7:38 PM] SS McCauley: "Notice of intent to Reactivate, Reinstitute, or Establish a New Council", Form 133. William Mundy has submitted two, but we have Saint Lawrence we plan to activate 1/25, but need current 133. Sain Ann in SLC, Saint Christopher in Kanab, Saint Paul in Hurricane. Fill out form online, send to Frank (or to me) to get Frank to sign it and send it into supreme. State officers putting together the new update [State Newsletter] I'll be mailing out the end of next week. It's 10-12 pages long, don't read it all at the council meeting, but you can highlight important things they haven't talked about -- particularly from calendar and programs. Next month we have Christmas, Basketball Free Throw, have things coming up for Lent, things to start planning now in December & January. Highlight a few things. ** Notice of intent to Reactivate, Reinstitute, or Establish a New Council ** https://www.kofc.org/en/forms/state/establish_council133_p.pdf SD Frank will deliver the printed copy of the [state] directory. Are some mistakes, take the blame for that. Each District Deputy has directories, hand carried to them, or in the mail. Ask that you pass them out at your council meetings. If you have to mail directories to program chairmen, let me know cost and will reimburse you for postage. [7:40 PM] SS McCauley: “Midyear Checkup for Your Council” webinar was just before this. ** Available on demand at https://goto.webcasts.com/starthere.jsp?ei=1694343&tp_key=bbaeb91c63 Summarize the hour into 14 bullet points: * In their findings, when they look at attendance at webinars and trainings, the more successful star councils all attended to a high degree the webinars and trainings. * The same councils take advantage of the Fraternal Planner, the Columbia Magazine, and the update (the newsletter) to see what other councils are doing to come up with new programs. * Firm up the second half of the year. Talk to your pastor. * GK/DGK don't have to run everything, can delegate to committee chairmen to do some of the programs. * Programs and church drives to enhance membership. * Every time you have a Program, have a membership table. * A Church Drive can be full blown, or have a table in the gathering space as people are leaving. Half of the Men would join if asked. 10,000 eligible men in Utah that are waiting to be asked, 5000 are waiting to be asked, just ask them, get them online, and transfer into a council. * Collaborate with other councils and ministries, to share programs and membership. RICA looking for sponsors, Knights could be sponsor, talk at RCIA meetings about the KofC. * COR isn't just for the KofC. Cor is for the Men of the Parish! * 21st Pilgrim Icon being sent in December. Sacred Heart, start scheduling with chair. Brand new icon. New case and new prayer cards. * Congratulate just had $100 million spent on RSVP. Continue. Have done a good job in Utah for a long time. * ASAP - Jan/Feb/Mar are key times. * COR must have pastor by-in. Other ministries. Promote it. Establish the first six events. "KISS - keep it simple, stupid". Don't have to be 90-120 minutes, the one we did with prayer, reading and discussion, over in 45 minutes. Excellent way to open it up. Will continue at our monthly meetings. * FBE - participate in supreme virtual events. Login with council number. Virtual events in Jan & Feb events. Easiest way to meet the criteria. * Financial Secretary - look online for form 11729 and 11231 to move members to affiliate member and the new billing process. Temporary billing process, 11231 up and running soon. Have Financial Secretaries get used to it before billing in January. ** https://www.kofc.org/en/resources/for-members/11729-affiliate-process.pdf ** https://www.kofc.org/en/forms/leadership/affiliate-revised-billing.pdf * Ask new member for suggestions, empower him to get involved. Don't scare him with "great idea, you're the chairman". Let's hear what his idea is. 1400 of our 3000 members are over age of 60. Younger members have good ideas. Let's ask them for the ideas, then give them help running the projects. * Talk to people about resources that are online. * Columbian Award - don't worry about it in June, if you're done, submit it now. Could be finished in February, or March, don't submit on 6/29, submit when it's done. [7:49 PM] SS Bill: Any questions? One thing we're here for. Several State Officers are online, several program directors are online. We can help, just call us, or email us. See us at council meetings. Christmas events coming up, trying to get to them. If you need us at a meeting or an event, we're here. [7:50 PM] SD Frank: First night I've been home in a while. Thank you all for being on here. [7:50 PM] District Master Nick Nielson: Brothers, I need your help as DDs. Our new fourth degree membership comes from our councils. Need your help to promote the fourth degree at the councils. True Knighthood is 1-4, full Knighthood comes in fourth degree. Big announcement is only one more fourth degree this year. Date is 3/29 (Founder's Day) in honor of 125th anniversary of fourth degree of KC. 2/22/2025 Big Celebration in New York. Challenge for each state to bring in 125% of membership goal in one exemplification. Utah can do this! Say 3300 Knights in Utah, round up and 1000 are 4th degree. Candidate pool of 2300. We're looking at 5% to hit that goal. One big, massive degree. This is the year to get your fourth degree, historic event in Utah. Largest class ever held in Utah; goal is at least 72 members at the exemplification. Cool. Planning a big banquet. Commemorative something (poker chip or coin) for candidate, special certificate for candidates. Will be a big deal, please help start promoting it. Get the Form 4 filled out, start recruiting. Mention it at every council meeting. This is the one you want. Will be the new exemplification, first we see it, open to everyone, no longer secret, not just candidates, wives and families can observe. [7:53 PM] William Mundy: What's the location? [7:54 PM] Nick: Have Saint Vincent de Paul reserved. Looking at alternate sites. Salt Lake County is great response as you start to promote it. Will have to travel, looking at block of hotel rooms. When I first heard about it, I laughed, then stepped back and said "what if?" This would be awesome! [7:54 PM] XS Karl: Let me know of any corrections to the directory, have already posted some on the state website. ** PDF of the directory, and list of corrections. ** https://utahknights.org/secrecy/#20241111 [7:55 PM] SD Frank: Have white shirt for William Munday, and replacement shirt for Alex Reynoso, and have Tom DeMars! Saw him on Sunday, got shirt on Monday. [7:56 PM] LIFE DIRECTOR Patrick Schmitt: Main thing is January. In the newsletter article. Three events in pro-life month. 1> Mass for the Unborn Fri 1/24 at Cathedral with the Bishop, Knights to attend with Honor Guard at Mass and for the candles on the front steps. 2> Sat 1/25 March for Life at State Capital - Pro-Life Utah (PLU) is planning it, tentative 10:30 AM rosary off to the side hopefully with the bishop, short program at 11 AM then march. Really want to push Knights to attend this. Our pro-life events are sparsely attended by Knights. Wear visible Knights gear. Will have signs to carry. Today President Biden awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Cecile Richards, the head of Planned Parenthood for 12 years. Not happy about that is an understatement. Only way we are going to change this issue is be vocal, present, changing hearts and minds. 3> Sunday 1/26 is the bilingual rosary for life at Mount Calvery at 2pm. Patrick: Continue to do your diaper drives. PLU and PRCs are in desperate need of material, serving more women than they ever have. PLU at 118 babies saved this year more than double last year's. In large part thanks to the Knights and the ultrasound in their mobile van. [8:00 PM] YOUTH DIRECTOR Jon Gauchay: Biggest thing is KCIC poster contest. Promote it as much as you can, due date is 12/15 for council winners. Have kids do it. [8:00 PM] SS McCauley: Jon, other thing is the Citizenship Essay Contest, also coming due in December. Still waiting to hear about Diocesan Science Fair, but know will need to talk with Chad and Stephen, we need more ribbons, and Chad will have to order trophies once we have the list of subjects. Comes up in February, start working on it, getting pledges from councils to donate in January. [8:01 PM] SD Frank: All I've got. Thank you, doing a great job. Open floor. [8:01 PM] Bob Masse Jr PSD - Coats for Kids 11/24 Saint Francis Xavier 11/30 Magna (CORRECTION: Saint Patrick's in SLC) Magna on 12/7 Council 602 on 12/7 and 12/8 Payson on 12/14 (Shop with a Cop) Saint Martin de Porres 12/15 That will wrap it up. If you need coats, get the kids to those locations. CCS [in SLC] not doing it. Our Lady of Guadalupe and Sacred Heart covered between Saint Patrick's and Cathedral Wendover gets leftovers, and Vernal. Saint George has asked if we have extra coats, will let you know. 8:04 PM] Nick: If there are extra coats, Ladies of Charity Center of Hope Food Pantry could use them. Bob: Nothing from Peter and Paul, Wendover, Vernal, want to take care of those parishes that are hurting, but if are extra, will get back with you Nick. [8:05 PM] McCauley; Saint Francis on Sunday after 8 AM Mass? Bob: 8:30am - noon, and if extra coats the Spanish 11 AM Mass at 1pm. See what happens. [8:05 PM] DD Marco: Our Lady of Guadalupe celebration at the Cathedral. Photographer or videographer who can help us, have YouTube channel, send videographer my way. [8:06 PM] Gabino: [State Officers] please come join one of our meetings. 1st Wednesday of each month, start at 7:15 pm when there is catechism, in Magna, when CCD is done, start at 7pm. XS Karl: OLG isn't on calendar, who is organizing it this year? DD Marco: Annual event, we're doing it. [8:08 PM] SS McCauley: Face to Face meeting on 1/10. Friday night for DDs, at Saint Francis Assisi, and 1/11 our midyear meeting, finalizing our agenda, will share that next month. Get it on your calendar. Need to see you on the 10th, and all your councils on the 11th. SD Frank: Hotel for that. DDs have $156 to book whatever hotel you need. I chose, nope, no name, just the price. $160/night for the hotel for the DDs. Make sure I get those expense reports. Haven't seen them from any DDs, it's quick, I sign it and send it back to you. Mundy, Reynoso. Haven't seen Gauchay's (he sent in Mon/Tue), will turn it around fast. Supreme Advocate Morella is acting Supreme Secretary right now, Patrick Mason from New Mexico stepped down. Happened a week before midyear meeting. Send expense reports to Fcarmona3169@gmail.com [8:12 PM] IPSD Kelly: Sent to your councils monthly, trying to track of necrology, will give information to Bill on Sunday night to put in the newsletter. [8:12 PM] DD Mundy: Former Financial Secretary in Price passed away yesterday morning, John Lessar. [8:12 PM] Gabino: One quick thing. Brother Alex [Aerts] is doing really bad, gave him two months to live. * SD Frank: I have his star council award from years ago, give that to him? * Gabino: Planning to go visit him. * SD Frank: Will get it to you. Next meeting in Tooele, or Magna. [8:13 PM] Gabino: Happy to hear from you, please reach out. ** Jon Gauchay [Chat sent: 8:13 PM] Fairfield Inn and Suites in Orem. $120/night. My wife uses it for work [8:14 PM] Closing Prayer - Prayer of Saint Francis SS McCauley: Prayer. Happy Thanksgiving! SD Frank: See you around, happy Thanksgiving, see you sooner or later. Have a good night. [8:15 PM] Meeting Adjourned!
